Enjoy This Pool and Beach on Fort Monroe

There is a saying better late than never. It applies to Ocean Paradise pool on Fort Monroe which opened last weekend.

My daughters, Charlotte, 10 and Julia, 8, went with me to review it. It is a big pool, with an expansive deep end. The best part of this pool is its location on the beach.

There is a bar just off the pool, but don’t let that keep the kids away. I saw not problems. Most people who were at the bar were sitting enjoying their beverage and the beach. There are private covered areas for rent complete with soft lounge chairs and refrigerators. Those face the beach and the pool as well.

The diving board is a welcome pleasure with so many pools no longer having them. There is also a great fast tube slide. I went down it twice, so as not to just take my kids word for it.

In order for kids to use these, they must past a swimming test. No problem for my kids. I was very impressed with the lifeguards who gave the tests to other small children. They went with them, encouraging them along the way. I am convinced one little boy would not have past it with the lifeguard continuously saying “you can do it, you are almost there.”

The small child area is not your typical kiddie pool. It is right next to the large pool with just a wall separating the two. It is big enough for parents to accompany their little one. It has a small slide for tots to enjoy the thrill of sliding into a pool.

As far as the sitting part, there is a shaded area with just tables and chairs. All the lounge chairs are on the opposite side without shade. A waitress comes to take your order if you need it. There is raised deck that allows for a better view of the beach.

The snack shop is more like a restaurant with a wait staff. There is seating both inside and outside on the deck.

The bathrooms were clean. There is a shower and changing area. There are lockers as well.

On the weekends in the evening, bands perform. This pool will be open daily until Labor Day and then will be open weekends in September which is nice because, it can still be hot during that time.

Memberships are available. The one-day price for non-members is $5 for a child and $10 for an adult. Well worth it if spending the day there.
