Fairly new to Deep Creek and have 3rd & 5th grade girls

We (active duty Navy husband, 11 yr old and 9 yr old daughters and I) transferred up here from Pensacola right at the beginning of the school year. We got up here just in time to find out that our schools would be changing. Wouldn't be a big issue except now the people they are going to school with now (at DC Central) will only be with them through middle school then they have to start all over thier freshman year with only a select number of students from Hugo going to DCH. I'm looking for 3-5th grader girls (sorry boys no sleepovers anytime soon! LOL) in the Mill Creek, Elmwood, Olde Mill neighborhoods. (areas going to DCCE now but have been changed from Grassfield HS to Deep Creek HS) I'd like my daughters to be able to "get out" and meet people but they are pretty confined to their classrooms.

Welcome also!

Welcome to the area! We are a Navy family too, and live in Virginia Beach so I can't speak to the Deep Creek community and specific schools, but would urge you to frequent the bases to stay in touch with other military kids if you're so inclined - the beach at Dam Neck is staffed with lifeguards, bathrooms, free parking and not crowded with only military families; the annual air show at Oceana and that base also has a fun water park/pool; the lighthouses and beach on the bay at Fort Story. Pick up the "Flagship" newspaper for military news at any commissary or exchange and take advantage of discount tickets to area museums and attractions at ITT.

We've been stationed here three times and always find something new, fun and family friendly here. Welcome!

New to the area

Welcome. Try going to rec ctrs, maybe take a class, in that area where you want to make friends, or go to church there. On another note, please take advantage of the rich AMERICAN history in the area. A lot applies to SOL's. Entertainment books are great for discounts & ideas. Welcome wagon is also good.
I grew up in Nofolk, have family in Va. Beach and now live in Newport News and we like it. So we are happy to say Welcome.
