Tidewater Parent
Now Online!
Tidewater Parent is a free, comprehensive magazine showcasing articles and news for today's active parents and targeted families. For over 15 years, Tidewater Parent has been published by Targeted Publications + Media, a division of the Virginian Pilot Media Companies. Our newest online effort, MyTidewaterMoms.com, complements our print publication with online discussions, blogs, support groups, photos, coupons, contests and articles. An active member of Parenting Publications of America, Tidewater Parent has established a reputation for editorial and design excellence, and continues to win awards from the Virginia Press Association, Parenting Publication of America, and Education Writers Association. Newly redesigned in July 2008, our improved format provides a comprehensive rundown, including age-specific departments (from cradle to college), in-depth feature stories, Family Fun, women’s and children’s health, Let's Travel, Let's Craft, Let's Talk, community news, and much, much more!
We are the region's only parenting magazine and social networking site. With a circulation of 52,000 and a readership of more than 156,000, we reach more area parents than any other parenting journal. The paper is thoroughly distributed throughout Norfolk, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Williamsburg, James City County, Yorktown and Newport News, as well as some areas of the Outer Banks and Smithfield.
Our relationships with other media partners and community organizations help bring our messages to families across the region. Special annual and bi-annual auxiliary products include Winter & Summer Baby Guide & Women's Health for new and expectant parents — all you need to know about pre-baby, infant care up to age 2 and women's health. Our annual camp guide, Connexions, is published every March and distributed first at our Camp Fair, held jointly with Old Dominion Athletics and The Ted Constant Center. Connexions suggests where to go for the coolest camps, schools, and contains information on family health and much more! In June, 88 Days of Summer Fun features unusual and interesting things to do every day of summer! In October, pick up a copy of Family Resource Guide — the complete news and information resource! Twice annually, we host incredibly popular contests for kids to appear on the cover of one of our publications or to be used in one of our creative designs.
In addition to parents, we are used as a resource for educators, day care and healthcare providers throughout the community. Popular distribution locations include area private and public schools in all cities, libraries, recreation centers, select Walgreens, WaWa Stores, Friendly's Restaurants, Babies-R-Us, Sentara, Bon Secours and The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters practices and health care facilities, Kool Smiles Dentistry offices, retail establishments (including MacArthur Center, Lynnhaven Mall & Military Circle), military establishments (commissaries, medical facilities, all family-friendly centers serving the military and their dependents) and festivals/community events.
You can access our publications online using Blue Toad digital publishing and pick up our supplements at select Harris Teeter, Farm Fresh and Food Lion grocery stores. 9 out of 10 readers make purchases from our ads. You can also reach area parents through our electronic newsletter Backpack, sent bi-weekly to nearly 5,000 subscribers, with circulation growing each month!
Our typical reader is an upper-income, well-educated woman between 25-44; median age is 37. She is the primary shopper for her household and children. That's buying power for households with an average annual income of $75,000. Over 48% of our readers are military families. 80% have children at home (2 or more); 73% are female; 27% male; White: 41.5%; Black: 41.5%; Hispanic: 3.7%.
Our newest initiative, MyTidewaterMoms.com, has been created as a hyper-local, user-driven gathering place for moms in the region. The site includes calendars, forums, blogs, photo galleries, contests, resource links, and both newsroom and syndicated articles designed to foster community and repeat visits.
