Who's teaching your kid's teachers?

I think we all understand that one of the two key components (the other being us, the parents) to our children's education is the teachers they encounter as the progress from kindergarten to high school. But a recent Time article asks if those teachers are being prepared correctly or if mediocre education departments and teachers' colleges are creating teachers who are unprepared to teach in the 21st century. What do you think? Are the teachers you encounter prepared to teach to today's - and, perhaps more importantly, tomorrow's - needs? Or are you forced not only to help with homework and projects at home, but to also fill in the gaps that the teacher either is unprepared to handle or doesn't have time to cover?
